for me right now its bad hitting.... i have 9.5 total points for offense (lowell, konerko, matsui, kendall, pierre) but my pitching staff is one of the leagues best.

*Thanks to Super Manny*

One pitcher getting shelled can lose you 2 points very easily. I'll take my chances with a hitter slumping instead any day. You just get more AB's to offset a hitters slump than you get IP to offset a pitchers.

I want to tear my hair out when one of my hitters goes 0 for 4 with 12 guys left on base, but it's still nothing compared to one of my aces getting hammered.
I got great starts from Zito (minus the win) and Willis last night, and still couldn't enjoy it because of Oswalt.

Pitchers getting shelled is easily worse.
Consider that each start for a pitcher amounts to between 3 to 4 percent of their total possible value to your team. That's like your hitter not only slumping but doing nothing but strikeout for a whole week!
In addition, once you've been shelled by a pitcher you are gunshy in getting him back in there. Case in point: Javy Vazquez. I missed on one of his four great recent starts because I wanted to be sure he was back to being effective. A pitcher who is shelled a number of times may end up having very little value to your team as you aren't willing to start him.
