Can someone explain to me why there is outrage over steroid use but nobody cares about things like these new tinted contacts (assuming for the sake of argument that the contacts actually enhance a player's abilities). The way I see it steroids artificially enhance a players muscles, and these artificially enhance a players eyes...what is the major difference there?
I don't have any problem with the contacts, but then, I don't have a problem with steroids either. So can someone clear up for me why one is cheating and the other isn't?
i agree with you in a way - i was both ecstatic and infuriated when bud "sleeze ball" selig finally addressed the issue of amphetamine use in MLB. i think that if they are going to get rid of steriods (which i think needs to be done), and get on top of the steroid users, then they need to get rid of all the other stuff as well. no steroids, amphetamines (greenies, etc.), etc. not just focus on one thing. if selig really wants to do his job right he needs to clean everything up now, not after they become part of a scandal.

But until recently they were not against the rules of baseball. Also, they are not completely illegal. They are only illegal if you don't have a prescription for them (which of course, most players didn't). Cocaine is illegal too, but nobody is talking about putting asterixes next to the names of players convicted of using coke.
There are plenty of things that are illegal in society but not in sports.

Nobody was every forced to take steroids. Also, the contacts are new, who knows what the long-term effects are. If it ends up that they cause blindness in some people who wear them will that put them on the same level as steroids?
Art, have you seen players like Jason Giambi and the Big Hurt (if u think he didnt use steriods then u probably believe bill clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman) without steroids, they are nothing, and are in poor health.
And dont tell me that Bonds is actually taking all this time off bcause of his KNEE?? Look at Ken Camminiti, he died young and a big reason was because of steroids. Big Mac had to retire early only a year after blasting 60+ because his body just broke down. Steroids are extremely deadly, high schoolers see ball players hit 500 foot shots and make mega millions and think they can do the same thing taking steroids...
so you get what we have now, kids injecting themselves, possibly getting aids from needled, and there bodies breaking down, steroids also cause depression and drastic mood swings...
theese contacts are alittle better then getting special lazer eye surgery, and they dont effect your healthy, and dont make you slug 800+ and hit 70 homeruns...and they don't lead to a early death!!!
if you cant see the differences then you are crazy...
