I didn't watch the game today, Somebody give me an overview of Bensons performance. How did he look and why was he taken out in the 5th was it just precautionary or was it the situation?
News: Kris Benson surrendered five hits and two runs in 4 2/3 innings Thursday against the Phillies. He struck out six and walked a pair in his first action of 2005.
Analysis: Benson looked sharp, but was on a strict pitch count. If he could have retired one more batter, he could have gotten the win. He finished with 88 pitches, 52 for strikes.
From what I understand...Benson was supposed to be on a 75-80 pitch count, and he was at 88 after he had just given up a single, a walk and hit a batter, to load the bases.

It's a minor point but he's only 30. He'll be 31 for the '06 season though.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Oh, you are correct of course, Amazinz. Benson won't turn 31 until November of this year. (Less than a month after his first World Series victory. Am I right?)
