Deciding to let Jaret Wright pitch one more game before I let him go, hoping he would show signs of progress. Well he sucked and got hurt and I was 5 minutes late on dumping him for Myers.
not using a waiver claim to get lyon
putting myers on my 'watch' list but not my roster drafting byrnes over c.monroe
drafting byrnes
drafting benitez and isringhausen in succession picking up drandon backe for one start (5 IP, 14.40 ERA, 2.80 WHIP) and then dropping him for ryan franklin (5 IP, 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP)
Barry Bonds (two days before he was down for the count) Jim Thome VMart
as three of my first four picks. My team also features:
Chipper Jones (who was solid until he decided to stop playing) Jeremy Reed (that one went far) and Kevin Mench (little bruise causing big problems)
The one good pick of my draft- Pat Burrell. Oh, but have no fear, I traded him away for Magglio Ordonez (two days before the "hernia")
ouch man, that's really rough!
My biggest kick in the pants so far has been dropping Brett Myers in a dynasty league after putting up with him for 2 crap-tastic seasons. Oh yeah, I dropped him for Arroyo before the season who I then promptly dropped for Wickman.
Wickman has been alright I guess, but come July when he's on the DL I'll be back to crying.
I drafted a veritable who's-who of slow starters for this year...
Beltran
Sheets
Chavez
V. Wells
Huff
Green
Estrada
M. Giles
Luckily Halladay and Burnett have bailed out my pitching, but I actually had a week go by in my head-to-head with 0 homers. I didn't even think that was possible.
I did manage to push Beltran for Tejada on Sunday. Of course Beltran hit a 3-run homer on Monday while Tejada went 0-for-5.
I don't really have any regrets...yet. Sure, my teams are all mired in the middle or bottom of the pack because of some players who have yet to emerge from the Ice Age, but those aren't the kind of things you can foresee for the most part, not to mention it is a long season, so were I to do it all again, I wouldn't change anything.
Bad moves of the year? how about after two Bret Myers starts doing a Troy Glaus/Brett Myers for Eric Chavez? Yay, that's worked well so far. Also, not picking up Myers in other leagues because I just didn't believe he could actually meet expectations.
No worries about not starting Burrell, I'm sure tons of ppl had him riding pine. I know I did at least
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
