Lyon's job security

After the start he has had, I think it will take more than a couple blown saves. More important than being blown is how it was blown. A HR on a decent pitch isn't as bad a walking the first two batters. Bloop fly hit or ripping them into the corners? 1 run leads or 3 run leads.

I understand Melvin is a pretty patient low key guy so I have to believe it would take a pretty severe breakdown on Lyons part to lose it.

btw, I meant to add -- rooting for the diamondbacks at least reulted ina world series.

christ the phillies won when I was a baby, and hurt me in 1993. Mitch Williams sucks.

yeah...me too...i thought he wouldn't last a week... :-o

but...i really don't think he's this good. i watched him pitch in toronto a couple of years ago...and...he should come down to earth at some point this year...

right now...it's his job. ;-D

I'm sure plenty of people said the same thing about Gagne in 2002 too.

I am by no means saying Lyon is the next Gagne but my point is that every year it seems at least one guy comes out of nowhere to be a surprisingly effective closer, and this could very well be Lyon's year.

The voice of reason ^
However, Lyon has earned the job and run with it. He'll have to get hurt or seriously melt down to lose it now. (I would like to see Valverde regain full health and effectiveness, though ... I'm in a holds league and could use the K-rates he used to put up).

I thought he would do ok (be serviceable) but I didn't think he would have 11 saves already. I'm glad I snagged him out of the free agent pool of all 4 of my leagues. :-]
