Drawing a lot more walks and showing great discipline so far. Should be able to net about 400 ABs and if he continues the current trend, he may actually be a valuable commidity.
I've been watching him too....but.....the reason he's drawing more walks is because he's been batting towards the end of the lineup. Why would you pitch to him when you could pitch to Damian Miller or JJ Hardy?
I think he'll be moved up in the lineup soon, and then he'll suck again. But I am watching him as well.

True... but the fact that he is not swinging at everything (and missing) is very encouraging IMO. He has to be laying off more bad pitches since he's not intentionally being walked.
He's at the top of the list of people I'm watching. He went on a tear last year too so I want to wait a bit and see whether he is really different now.

He's definitely a sleeper, and I own him in a 14 team league and will ride out his hot start.
But I am not ready to call him a better contact hitter....yet. Maybe he has learned it, but I don't think we'll know that until he's in a situation where pitchers are actually giving him strikes to hit (or miss).
I could be completely wrong but a lot of power hitters have as many Ks as Hs.
The most impressive thing about Branyan so far is the fact that he is drawing a lot more walks. Which means he is taking more pitches and being more selective. That could lead to only getting better. The biggest indicator will be the BB rate. If he maintains it, then I think he will have a breakout season.

As someone mentioned, Damian's been hitting 6th, and well too. Branyan's hitting 7th with JJ behind him. So that does account for some of the walks. The 0-3 3K day against the Scrubbies is going to happen from time to time, especially against dominant pitching like Zambrano. Overall though, he does look better at the plate this year, and I believe (don't have the #s in front of me) he leads the team in p/pa.
