Victor Martinez, Buy Low???

Postby Irish » Tue May 03, 2005 9:19 am

The guy in my league wants closers and is willing to give up Martinez, but I have Mauer and don't know if I should try buying low on Martinez as a replacement if Mauer might put up better numbers.

Ignore the whole Mauer comparison for now:

Is Victor Martinez going to bounce back???

Is he a great buy-low candidate or a one year wonder???

I've wondered this myself.

All of the Cleveland Line-up has been cold, but Hafner hit two HR's on the weekend. Maybe V-Mart will start to get better pitches with Hafner raking behind him?

I seem to remember him starting quietly last year as well though, so he could just be another perenial slow starter and hence, a great buy=low candidate.

More opinions, please...

I thought he started fast last year and that's why everyone started picking him up early.

That could be wrong, but either way I think you're hafner theory could be partially responsible.

Martinez is a hot/cold player. He’s starting to come around and should hit well in May – July. But it’s still anyone’s guess. I’d wait it out. He’ll drop Victor if he craps out again soon.
