Johnny Damon said yesterday that he'd consider retirement as an option when he becomes a free agent this winter. What he won't consider is signing with the Yankees.
''There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know they are going to come after me hard,'' Damon said. ''It's definitely not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are going to offer me. It's not what I need.'' We'll see. Damon, who said he's ''very happy'' with the Red Sox, has already suggested he'd like a six-year contract this winter. Retirement at age 32 is highly unlikely. May. 2 - 2:53 pm et
It will be interesting to see what happens next offseason. The Sox are not going to offer him 5-6 years, they may not even offer him a contract at all, as he makes (imo) more than he's worth already, and I think they might be leaving Center open as a place to put Hanley Ramirez in a couple of years. I believe him when he says he won't sign with the Yankees. However the Yankees are the only team who may consider giving him what he wants. I actually wouldn't be surprised if he retires, as I think he's found out that he has as much fun being a celebrity as he does playing baseball.

Good luck Damon, you're not really that good.
It's also funny that he thinks that he assumes that the Yanks would even want him let alone give him a 6 year contract. Dumbass.
Yeah, that's a pretty bold statement..."There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know they are going to come after me hard,'' Damon said. ''It's definitely not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are going to offer me."
Lol, how the hell does he know that?
I mean, I'd like to have the guy on the team but he comes off as well, an idiot sometimes, whether he appreciates being called that or not.
But...if the Yankees do make a move for him, something tells me he'll change his tune if the Yankees make an offer. Or at least use them to drive up the Sox price, to be a prick.
