Word on the street is that he is going to get his shot...
May 2 Dempster will get a chance to save games for the Cubs after being moved from the rotation to the bullpen over the weekend, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Recommendation: Under this scenario Glendon Rusch would take Kerry Wood's spot in the rotation, LaTroy Hawkins would move to a setup role and Dempster would close. It's still not a sure thing as the Cubs are still debating whether to move Rusch into the rotation to take Wood's spot. Still, Dempster would make a good pickup in NL-only leagues.
I have heard that as well, I think either Rotoworld or Rototimes rumored it a couple days ago. It would be awfully hard to be Ryan, never really knowing your role.

as far as i know dempster figures to remain in the rotation in the short term. from the trib:
If Wood has to go on the disabled list, Baker said Sunday the Cubs likely will call up someone from the minors for the bullpen. Glendon Rusch, who pitched two innings of relief Sunday and allowed four hits and a run, likely would take Wood's spot in the rotation, although Baker said he's not sure who will start Thursday in Milwaukee.
if dempster does go to the pen, i guess he is as likely as anyone to get a save opp but i wouldnt count on him holding down the role for any length of time. i dont think his whip and era would be worth it though. he is putting up numbers similar to rockies reliever except not at altitude.
He's a good Canadian boy who should, at a minimum, get some strike outs and a fair number of holds with a chance to get some saves. I think that he is worth stashing on your roster is you have room for him.
May 2 Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster will get a chance to close games for the Cubs after being moved from the rotation to the bullpen over the weekend. Dempster told the Chicago Sun Times of his new role, ''I was in the bullpen the last couple days, I think, out of necessity. I'm still trying to figure it out myself, what we're going with. If it makes us better, that's the most important thing. I'll hold leads or come in and save 'em, whatever I have to do.'' Views: In the same report, Dempster voiced his displeasure with bouncing around to different roles and the desire to settle into a role and work on being effective in it. One role he's been very ineffective over the course of his career is that of starter so this move is intriguing. If you are in a deeper league and hurting for saves, take a chance on him immediately, but otherwise, see if he settles into the role before wasting a roster spot on him.
That sure does sound like he is going to get a shot and he could be worth picking up if you have the room....
