I think Taveras may have 50-60 sb at the end of the year if houston keeps him leadoff whereas roberts will prob have around 40-45. they'll most likely have identical ba, taveras may have slightly better. taveras has scored a surprising more # of runs being on houston vs roberts, but i guess roberts is on the padres so not much difference there.
Well, as long as Tavares stays in the lineup when Berkman comes back, I'll have to go with him. Dave Roberts (as already evidenced this year) isn't the greatest picture of health, and he'll probably get hurt again at some point. I would also take Houston's hitting park over SD's pitching park.

That's a question that I've been pondering as well. Both were available in my league and I opted to go with Roberts based mostly on the fact that he's proven. Stealing bases isn't all in the speed... it's also about reading pitchers, and Roberts has proven that he can do it consistently. Plus Roberts has 7 games this week, which is nice.
However, I can't really see Tavares losing much time in the OF after he gunned down 3 players at the plate in the weekend series against the Cubs. He didn't have a great week at the plate, but if he stays in that lead-off spot after Berkman gets back, he could have near-Juan Pierre value.
My guess is Taveras slips to a low enough OBP that he moves back down to 8th in the order and assuming he stays healthy Roberts puts up better numbers. However Roberts won't stay healthy so what really decides it is how long Roberts is hurt for when he gets hurt.
The thing with Roberts is that you can sit him against lefties, and his terrible batting average isnt so terrible (.275 (and will probably sit out many games against lefties in favor of Nady anyways), so i wouldnt image that you would lose too many SBs by platooning him.
Regardless, I kept Willy instead of picking up Roberts, and health is the main reason.

willy sucks against lefties too
hitting around .190 vs lefties and .300 vs righties
