He's not underrated in fantasy, because he's not worth a whole lot. However, last year his VORP was 45.3, right below Chavez and Varitek, and right above Juan Pierre, Lew Ford, and Derrek Lee.
Your wisemen don't know how it feels to be thick as a brick...
Mark Kotsay is one of those guys who is a extremly valuable almost superstar player in REAL Baseball. In fantasy he is nothing speical at all.
But in real baseball, he is EXTREMLY valuable. He is one of the best lead off men in the game, he sets the table, he plays a gold glove center field, Mark Kotsay is one of the best "hitters" in baseball.
I agree that he is underated. That being said you cant get CHIT for him trade wise i have tried. This is going to sound crazy, but this is the kind of player that will win you your fantasy league.Dont get me wrong he is NOT a stud by ANY stretch of the imagination but he is solid all the way around. He wont hurt you in ANY category and will help you(at least a little) in almost all of them. He helps a LOT in Avg and runs. Chances are he is around in most drafts till the final 2-4 rounds and never goes in an auction league for more than $4-5 bucks. EVERYONe knows to take pujols, beltran and the like in the first couple of rounds. Those players dont win championships. Its the late round gems that you get the most value for that do that.
