I'd say no and that it's hard to form a better opinion of how close he is until he pitches in AA. Verlander is pitching great, but is a level below Billingsley/Penn and is 1 1/2 to 2 years older then they are.

Yeah, you can't compare guys when the levels/ages differ like that. He'll be up in AA very soon where he'll likely play out the rest of the season. Erie, the Tigers AA affiliate, plays in a hitter friendly park, so it should be a good test when it does happen. Last night he just threw another gem, his second straight start giving up zero walks, but he suffered a tough 1-0 loss.
Talk about dominating, evidently AA isn't much of a step up for Verlander.

Whatever the Tigers did for him they need to go and get Ankiel and do the same thing. Seriously though, he is defiantly proving everyone that he can be a top of the rotation guy now that his control problems have vanished.
We can add two minor leaguers on a special reserve squad. They cannot be activated for one year. And the can go right to our minor reserve next year.I have already grabbed Orvella with one pick. Should I grab Verlander? Pitchers are so hard to judge. AL only

Verlander is gonna start the second game of the double-header! ;-D
Tigers promising prospect pitcher Justin Verlander is scheduled to make his major league debut on Monday. The hard-throwing right-hander has been told he will start the second game of a day-night doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians at Jacobs Field in Cleveland, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.
If Yahoo makes him eligible before or after his start, is Verlander worth not only losing a waiver position, but also using up a roster spot in a 17-team mixed keeper league until he's ready to contribute on a regular basis? Is he THAT good to basically use up a temporary dead roster spot on my team? We have seven bench spots available, and our minor league draft is at the end of this month. Thanks for any input...
I'd say watch his start closely. If you have the roster spot and think this guy will be an impact pitcher, then go for it. Very few minor league pitchers have this guy's upside. If he pitches well he may be around later in the year (August or September?). Otherwise I think he has a great shot to be in the rotation for good at the start of 2006.
