How much Bench?

Postby brenzie » Sun May 18, 2003 7:26 am

I am in a 10 team H2H, 21--man team mixed league. Most other managers don't use a bench. What is the rule of thumb on number of bench guys most vets use. Guys in my league believe in no bench and throwing those extra positions into pitching. I' think a good strong bench for days off and possible pitching matchups off-sets their strategy. What do you think?

First off, 21 man rosters are too small for much of a bench. I have 1 guy I won't drop (Huff) and two spots I pick guys up to play on off days (for Monday it is Geoff Jenkins and Frank Thomas.

I'll likely waive at least one immediately after rosters for monday are final for somebody else.

I like to hit the max games played for positions, and it's tough to make up all at once. The 2-3 bench pitchers I keep I usually keep longer than the position players.

For Sunday, since Raffy and Everett face Mussina, I'm benching Raffy, and possibly Everett as well. I haven't benched Everett since putting him in my line-up, but Jenkins faces a rookie in MIL so I figure it's worth a shot.
