saxet....I am not saying I'd rather have Patterson over Furcal. What I am saying is that it's too close for me to veto. I think you're reading in to what I'm saying too much.

I don't know if he'll turn out to be this year's Ben Sheets...but I'd say he's the leading candidate right now, so who's to say he won't be? It's a gamble, but that trade could pay off. Like I said, I wouldn't have done the trade if I owned Furcal....but....I see the reasoning behind it and therefore wouldn't veto.

these kinds of trades require context. did all of the teams that had viable ss options also feel "set" at picthing?

that sometimes happens you know.

I think it is a pretty bad trade, but its not the worst ever. And you can't veto a trade because someone could have gotten more. If both players feel it is fair, and you can look at it and say it helps, then let it through.

If this trade only "helps" 5 percent, but by trading furcal he could have improved his score 25 percent, it doesn't mean the original trade is unfair, just unwise.

I think people mix the two up honestly. A lot of trades are "unwise" but I think the "unfair" ones are more rare.

Its definitely not the worst trade i've ever seen. I agree that alot of whether or not I would veto this would depend on the context. Does the team trading away furcal have an extra SS? I'm not saying I would definitely veto this trade. I just want to make clear the point that John Patterson is not Ben Sheets(atleast not yet). 4 quality starts doesnt make me an instant believer. I don't mind that someone wants to take a chance on him panning out but slomo seems to look a little too highly on Patterson(mainly because he owns him and is a bit biased towards his own players - like we all are).

I think that I have that one beat. Last week in one of my leagues someone traded ARod for D. Lowe. It obviously got vetoed within a few hours. I posted a message saying that it was the worst trade I'd ever seen and I got a response somehow justifying it.

Why did A-Rod for D. Lowe get vetoed? Obviously whoever got A-Rod got the better side. Was their collusion involved? If not, then why did this get vetoed. Cuz the A-Rod owner was dumb to trade him? If that was the case, boy I am glad I am not in your league!!!

That's BS. Sometimes you have to shoot down trades that will kill the integrity of the league. This trade would have obviously done that and if it had gone through then I wouldn't be joining that league next year cause obviously not enough of the owners give a crap. (not that I'm in that league)

As for the trade at topic, I wouldn't veto this trade just because of what the gentleman that started this thread said. The Commish would have some explaining to do had he vetoed this trade and Patterson did end up with a sub 3 ERA and a K/IP. You have to take chances in FBB to win in most leagues and this is a chance he is willing to take. Furcal isn't a top teir SS so if he has a backup SS worthy than the chance he is taking really isn't that bad.

BTW, where players are drafted does not matter. The value of a player changes drastically when the games start...
