is he just really this deteriorated? or is there something I'm missing...he is killing me right now...should I pray for a comeback or bench him, or...gulp...drop him?

He's just not locating his pitches well right now.
He'll be fine.

The Moose isn't as consistent as he use to be. But if you have him, don't drop him. Last year, he started slow, then had a great May and June, went into a funk like no other in July and August, and finally finished with a dominating September second only to Santana. For now, I would play him conservatively and pick his battles until he heats up. Just keep faith that he will eventually get better.

Loss of velocity. He can't get away with his pitches anymore.

That's simply not true.

Moose is a perfectionist who likes to hit spots and corners. He is having some trouble hitting his locations precisely. His velocity is good and he will be fine. Listen to Jim Kaat on the broadcasts, he says the same.

Well, I've heard enough -- you've convinced me!

Well, there's really not much else to say.
At this point, his velocity is exactly the same as it has been over the last few seasons. During spring training and his first start or two, he was topping out at 87-88...but he's right back at 91 now.
He's fine.

Listening to Kaat the other night, he said that both Mussina and Johnson's velocity were down. He also said that it is VERY COMMON for velocity to be down a few MPHs in April and that they are both pitching well within the expected range for the time of year and the weather.
Neither pitcher, nor the Yankees, are worried.
Not my opinion. Just what the Kaat said.

Velocity is down a bit. Location is AWFUL. We have seen this before and it is why he is so maddenly inconsistent. He will likely be fine but it looks like he will drive his fantasy owners mad figuring when to start him and when not to. He looked like he was getting his act together in his last start and then he pulls this garbage from Wed.
