I was on the fence when the Giants first announced the signing. I got a little mad when he showed up at camp in poor condition. And now this.

If the Giants have to go all year again without a closer, kiss their season goodbye.

What else can go wrong for them?

Do they trade for a closer now? Aardsma and Valdez aren't ready. Munter doesn't have the mentality IMO. Brower certainly can't go all year as the closer.

Last year when they inquired about Urbina, the Tigers wanted Cain and another prospect. That isn't going to happen.

When Alou was asked who his closer would be on the pre-game show, his response was "It's a good guess."

As for a starter becoming the closer, I really don't see that happening. Some of us speculated that Foppert might get a look if they didn't sign a closer in the offseason, but now he has a blister problem.

Here's a quote from Alou on converting a starter:

"This is more bleeding we have to stop," Alou said. "Last year we converted one of the starters and he saved our life. Right now, we don't have a guy like that who's been a closer."

Frankly, I don't know what they're going to do.
