Just dropped Blanton for Julio. Eh I figure might as well stash him on my bench, who knows what could happen in SF now :-?

I'm doubting that Giants won't be able to trade for Julio, mostly because Baltimore is doing well, and they'll probably want to keep him as an elite setup man.

right, pretty much no chance julio gets traded anytime soon...the orioles don't need hitting and i don't see the giants giving them any quality starters

I think the Giants will probably stay in house for pitching and not make any trades I think the price-tag would probably be too high
for either uggy or julio.. probably wanting one of our stud pitching prospects in return. One gripe I have is that Yahoo needs to hurry up and get benitez to the DL! so I can try and grab someone!

The Giants have a pretty thin farm system. Hitting wise, the best are Eddy Martinez-Esteve (who isn't even eligible to be traded right now) and Fred Lewis, who projects to not be a superstar, but have solid gap power. The Giants definitely wouldn't trade Matt Cain (nor should they), but is Merkin Valdez available for a closer prospect? IMO, with Bonds out for longer, it's really not worth putting the future on the line for now (I believe UUU's deal is up after this year anyway). Might as well keep the future for the future.

Had it been a different team, I wouldn't have been surprised to see a trade, but the Giants can't afford to lose prospects in my opinion. The in-house contenders for the closing job aren't very good, but what can they do?

Giants manager Felipe Alou indicated tonight that he expects to give save opportunities to Matt Herges and Jeff Fassero for now.
Herges had a 5.23 ERA and a 1.70 WHIP last year. So far this season, he's given up 10 hits, walked four and struck out four in 9 1/3 IP. Maybe he can turn things around, but right now, he has to be regarded as a well below average reliever. He needs to be picked up in fantasy leagues, but we wouldn't trust him with any leads.
