Who will be the pitcher of Record In Bos vs Bal? Clement went 4.2 and isnt there a rule if u go 4.2 you qualify for a win? I know it is 5 innings to qualify for the win, but i thought i read somewhere u can go 4.2 and still qualify.. I unfortunately started Clement. I wasn't going too, but how could i not after his last start against them.. Just wondering if Clement will be the pitcher of record if the Bosox keep the lead..

The middle reliever deemed "most effective" by the official scorer.

They "break" the rules for the AS game.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Yeah, for non-championship games it's customary to waive the 5 IP minimum and give the win to the pitcher of ercord when the winning team took the lead for the final time. By non-championship it basically means games that don't count for anything, like exhibition games, the AS game, or whatever.

So that would be Timlin but I've seen instances where the MR that pitched through to the 5 innings mark picked up the win. So in this case, Embree may well have been awarded it even though he pitched just 1/3 of an innings.
Anyway, it matters not anymore because me old mate Jorge Julio is going to get the win and BJ Ryan the save.

I wish they would liberalize the use of the "most effective" rule in determining the winning pitcher and if a save is really warranted.
I know, I know ... there are official rules for these things and that the consistency helps in record-keeping.
But there are times -- and we see them constantly -- when a guy pitches a supreme game and effectively puts the team in a position to win -- but someone who pitches a measly 1/3 of an inning gets the box score victory. I think everyone feels cheated in those circumstances.
