Mike Piazza - C - New York Mets May 17
Mets placed catcher Mike Piazza on the disabled list with a strained right groin.
Piazza reported feeling a pop in his groin and a lot of pain initially. X-rays were inconclusive, but it's certainly not a good sign that the Mets wasted no time in placing him on the disabled list. ''I don't know how severe it is, but he was in an awful lot of pain and couldn't put any weight on it,'' Mets manager Art Howe said. ''Two weeks is very optimistic. That's just the start. You have to be careful with groin injuries.''
