Man, I'm not a huge Pedro fan, not a Mets fan, or a Bob Klapisch (as big a homer as any reporter) fan but just reading this made me mad...
Scouts say Martinez is throwing harder today than he was in his last two years with the Red Sox, a consistent 93 mph, with so much action on his breaking pitches that Mike Piazza admitted he was having trouble catching him.
The last time the two were paired, April 16 against the Marlins, Martinez was charged with three wild pitches – one more than he threw in all of 2004. The 36-year-old Piazza sheepishly said, "I'm not as mobile as I was 10 years ago, I'm doing the best I can. When Pedro gets going, you just throw your glove out there. There's not a lot of catchers even in their prime that could control some of those pitches."
I mean the guy pretends to be a catcher and there he is making excuses about not being able to catch his teams ace, a pitcher with very good control (he's not Kaz or Zambrano). I realize there aren't that many options with Phelps traded to the mets, but with his bat having rapidly decayed i would think that he hurts his team more then he helps being in the everyday lineup. With many pitchers with good stuff but developmental issues its too bad the Mets didn't pursue someone like Mike Mathany in the off-season
ok guys, ill get off my soapbox now

He began letting Koby Clemens drive the orange Hummer to school after he signed a letter of intent last November to play baseball for the University of Texas, whose colors are burnt orange and white. Before that, Koby drove a black Hummer to school
Thats true but when your floating Victor Zambrano, Kaz Isihi and Kris Benson (when he gets healthy) out there to fill out your rotation I think you would want a catcher who can work with them and help them along, Matheny or a Veritek, with a good reputation for game managment. Its not like the mets have Leo Mazzeone as their pitching coach
and i realize that veritek and matheny are very different catchers, i was just providing an example of someone else with a strong reputation for working with pitchers
They say Piazza works great with a staff. He is one of the more trusted signal callers.
BUT... he can't catch or throw the ball. I believe 19 of 21 attempted base-stealers have been successful. Watching him throw is pretty sad. He 2-bounces everything.

True, his arm is terrible. Hower, last night Furcal swiped 3 bags on the pitcher. He just wasn't holding the runners, and Piazza can't be expected to make up for that at his age.

Piazza and Cameron don't walk enough for the A's.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Yeah, and they hit too many of those damn homeruns.
And Cameron steals bases.
