"Owners who drafted Beltre in the first round are chumps."

And who, pray tell, did geniuses like you draft in the first and second rounds?

No kidding. Some grown ups still believe in fairy tales.

Beltre was a guy I definitely was cautious with in each draft. In most all of them I was able to steer clear of the can of worms that owning him would open, BUT... I did get him with the first pick in the third round of a 13 team league, (27th overall), so I have something invested in him. While I think you will find the consensus to be quite unanimous that he will not put up number like last year, the fact is that he had 200 hits in fewer than 600 at bats, and led the majors in HRs.

Everybody wants to hate on him (probably because he has burned them in past years and they were finally fed up and thus missed drafting him last year) and brag about how they were smart enough not to draft him, but if he doesn't end up with 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs, I'd be shocked. The 100-30-115-290 sounds about right to me. WAY too early to panic.

Bragging about not drafting a guy in April is silly. Beltre had to go somewhere in your draft, and somewhere in the top 30 in all likelihood. He might have been drafted too high in most leagues, but that doesn't mean that everyone who drafted him reached.

There are plenty of big power hitters who are underperforming right now. Pujols. Helton for another. Thome. Carlos Lee. Chavez. The list goes on. Even Manny was hitting terribly until he had a hot streak last week.

Totally agreed. It's too early to make sound decsions on players that are either COLD or HOT, with a few exceptions of course.

He was my 5th round selection in a very competitive 12 team private league. Obviously everyone in that league expects a bust this year.

I'll be very very happy with 115/35/105/.280 :D

At the Ballpark in Arlington (I know, I know, Ameriquest Field, but I hate the new name). Anyone can hit it out of there. Lol. :-b

Still a positive sign though. ;-)
