I have heard his job was anywhere from safe as it comes to the possibility of trading for Mike Gonzalez and Looper going to Middle relief. I was thinking of trading Sabathia for him but only if his job is safe as a closer. What do you guys think?
Unless the Mets make a trade then there's nobody really to take it from him. As far as trade rumors go, I haven't heard anything about the Mets but maybe someone more local (Amazinz) has.
I'd say it's pretty safe. Maybe not so safe if the Mets trade for Mike G. but that was just speculation by FOX Sports.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

The Mets are interested in both of them, but the Pirates want a major league ready player (aka Diaz) for Gonzalez. There is no way the Mets do this. They are focusing on Grabow (also a lefty). The thing is the Pirates might want to wait a little before trading a left handed reliever because they can get much more, later in the season when teams are making the playoff push.
I'd say that Looper's job is real safe right now. Unless they trade for a proven closer (Urbina or possibly Baez), Looper is the closer and no one else is taking it away from him.
