ATLANTA -- The Phillies' slumping offense took a step backward when its leading run producer, Pat Burrell, left Sunday afternoon's game in Atlanta in the fourth inning with a strained right groin.
Burrell, who started action Sunday tied for the Major League lead in RBIs with 20 with Baltimore's Miguel Tejada, was injured running out a ground ball to third in the fourth inning of the Phillies' 4-0 loss.
"He's hurting," said manager Charlie Manuel. "He's out tomorrow."
Manuel stopped short of saying if the team would put its starting left fielder on the disabled list.
"Not right now he's not," said Manuel. "We'll see where he's at tomorrow and go from there."
The Phillies, who open a three-game set Monday in Washington, can ill afford to be without Burrell, after scoring only three runs in 27 innings against the Braves, and getting shut out over the final 16.
"Everybody needs to step up," said Manuel.
Burrell is two RBIs away from setting a new the franchise mark for RBIs in April. He was the National League Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10.
