They are playing pretty well right now with the best record in the International League AAA at 10-5. If worse comes to worse, it looks like there are some players worth watching down there.
Chris Shelton is continuing his AFL performance and tearing it up offensively with a .373 BA, 4HR, 13RBI. He generally plyas 1B these days, so Pena and Dmitri stand in his way. If Pena can't get out of the major funk he's in, we at least have an alternative, although I think Pena should still be ok.
If we really need a left handed hitting outfielder (hint, hint), why not Alexis Gomez? He has a nice .415 OBP, and a good solid 7/8 BB/k ratio and solid speed with 3 SB without being caught.
If our starting rotation continues to struggle, we could do no worse than give Sean Douglass or even Kenny Baugh a shot. Douglass is 2-0 with a 0.52 ERA and 16/5 k/BB ratio through 17 1/3 IP, but his previous ML stints have been forgettable. The former first rounder Baugh seems to finally be recovering from his past injuries so far with a good solid 2.81 ERA and 9/5 K/BB ratio through 16 IP.
On another note, our top offensive prospect Granderson has been struggling a bit with the strike zone. 20 K's is a bit concerning at this point, so hopefully he'll start to play better soon. His average is at a respectable level, though.
None of these guys would probably be difference makers right now, but it's nice to have some options just in case, right?
