Feeling the pain

Postby Jmets » Fri May 16, 2003 9:02 am

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow Met fans as I crawl back under my rock to hide in Met shame this year................ something has to come out positive for them this year maybe it will be the learning the following:

1) Giving up on getting over-paid-has-beens and get back to getting quality guys out of the farm system and being patient with them.

2) Get rid of anyone who had anything to do with deciding these transactions ( and these are only in the past few years):

-Acquired OF Matt Lawton from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for P Rick Reed ( later Lawton was sent off as part of the Alomar deal)

-Acquired 1B Mo Vaughn and cash from the Angels for P Kevin Appier :-P

-Acquired LHP Shawn Estes from the San Francisco Giants for OF Tsuyoshi Shinjo and IF Desi Relaford.

-Signed free agent OF Roger Cedeno to a four-year contract :-o

-Acquired OF David Justice from the New York Yankees for 3B Robin Ventura. :-t

I guess the moral of the story is if you make it to the world series be sure to dismantle the team that got you there and bring in the high price has beens to show you can spend and compete with your cross town rivals.............

-Acquired INF/OF Ross Gload and RHP Craig House from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for INF Todd Zeile, OF Benny Agbayani, INF Lenny Harris and cash :-t

-Acquired left-handed pitcher John Bale from Baltimore in exchange for outfielder Gary Matthews, Jr. :-t

-Acquired RHP John Thomson and OF Mark Little from Colorado in exchange for OF Jay Payton, RHP Mark Corey and minor league OF Robert Stratton. :-t

Looks like they are heading in the right direction. Getting some young talent and should only get better.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.
