bit confused by this
The bigger the image the bigger the byte size will be.
The Gimp doesn't allow you to resize images?

Now I'm confused... resizing is cool with the gimp...but after I resize it i use a secondary program to narrow it down to 12kb or whatever...
This is because I like to save my hardcopies to one drive and then edit them with ifran view to make them within the limits and save them to andother file...
Its just a weird way I do it... IFran lets you easily on each save choose the percent you want to save it as...so does gimp but for some reason it just seems quick with ifran
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

I would think with the gimp, when you're saving it as a jpeg there should be an option button on the "save window" by clicking this option it should allow you to adjust the byte size of the image.

yeah, save full quality with layers, then "save as" for the jpeg.
