Just wanted to say that I went to the game today and watched Patterson closely. He was awesome. He took his time, even had the umps come out several times and check the mound because he was having trouble throwing off it the first few innings and they had the groundscrew come out and patch it up. It was very cold and mixed with the rainy miserable out there and he didn't make mistakes. I think its time to say he could very well be a big producer in the next coming months. I got home and dropped Pineiro and picked him up.

Thanks for the good info. Hopefully, the tattle-tales won't rat you out. I have picked up Patterson in every league he's available in also. What kind of pitcher is he (ie - what does he throw)? What other current MLB pitcher would you compare his style and stuff to?
I started him against the Braves today. He has a pretty favorable schedule coming up. I'd be tempted to sit him against Philly, but then start him the next few weeks against the Dodgers, Cubs, Giants, and Blue Jays. He's the best bet for this year's 2004 Oliver Perez (probably an even better bet than Perez himself!)
patterson has always had the stuff, injuries have slowed him though. he's coming off of tommy john in 2000.
he's got a pretty good fastball, and from all accounts a great curve. seems to have a slider now as well. big thing this season has been his command, which is much better.
everyone has been having problems with the mound at rfk. apparently it is not in top shape, along with the infield, which is really rocky. they are bringing in a group that does their ST field to work on it while they are on the road.
Barry Svrluga: By "good visual shape", I guess you mean green grass and some posters? While they certainly studied what makes a good field -- and brought in Roger Bossard of the White Sox to lay down the field -- things haven't gone as smoothly as the players or club would have liked. Yes, it looks okay, and the posters beyond the left field wall are cool. But the pitchers have complained about the mound, and the infield isn't right yet -- too sandy and rocky. The team just brought in the grounds guy from Space Coast Stadium in Viera, which has a beautiful surface, to help out. Tucker went on the DL after pulling a groin muscle while pitching off the mound. I wonder if it had anything to do with the conditions.
