Was just listening to the Royals game & the announcers were saying that there was alot of buzz today from the Royals brass about Helton coming to the American League.
So obviously this may not mean anything, but to hear baseball "insiders" talking about it must mean that there is at least something to the rumors....
The Rockies probably would be willing to give him up, but he also has a no trade clause. Which means he is only going to go to a team that has a realistic chance of making the playoffs, which would not really be Baltimore. At most, they have an outside chance. The only team that really meets that and has a spot for him would be Minnesota, who cannot afford that salary. If he is going to play for a team that is not going to win, he might as well just stay in Denver, where he is loved by the fans, has a great park to hit in, where his home and family is.
Helton has also said this year that he has no desire to leave Colorado, he wants to stay and help build the team into a winner. Maybe he knows he'll get more $$$ in his next contract year if he stays in Coors Field a couple more years Not that his pockets aren't over-flowing already. But why in the world would anybody want to stay in Colorado if not for more money?? I've been there, it's not that nice. And the team sucks.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"

Actually, Denver area is a highly desirable area to live in from a real estate point of view.
Also, Helton gets to pad his numbers which is good for his career and also financially. Hell, I wouldn't want to leave either if I played ball. And you are absolutely right that he will at least want to stay until his contract is up so that he can get a fat contract with the next team. And he'll get it too.

Arg, Baltimore isn't interested in Helton. A female sportswriter basically mentioned in her column that in the O's neverending search for pitching, they should get Todd Helton! Unfortunately, I don't believe she was being sarcastic. The rumour then took off from there.
