from cbs:

Nomar Garciaparra, SS CHC

News: Nomar Garciaparra left Wednesday's game at St. Louis in the top of the third inning due to a soft muscle tear of the upper groin. He hit a grounder and left the batter's box and immediately crumpled to the ground.

Analysis: Garciaparra was carried off of the field by teammates and trainers, so it certainly does not look good. It looks certain that a stint on the 15-day disabled list is a possibility and it might be a long-term injury. Neifi Perez came on to replace him and would start at shortstop if he is out for a long period. Jerry Hairston will likely slide into an everyday role as the team's second baseman until Todd Walker is able to return.

I was watching while it happened and you can see his whole leg gyrate in slo mo.
The announcers were brutal describing it as "exploding".
He was obviously in a good deal of pain and had to be carried off.
If he's not on the 60 day DL, i'd be surprised.

2-3 Months!!! :-o :,-(

AP via Yahoo! Sports wrote:ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Chicago Cubs shortstop Nomar Garciaparra will be sidelined at least two-to-three months because of a torn left groin.

Garciaparra was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, one day after he got hurt while leaving the batter's box during a game against St. Louis. Cubs trainer Mark O'Neal said the muscle pulled away from the bone.

The Cubs, doctors and Garciaparra will decide in the next 10 days whether an operation is needed.

``The surgery is really going to be determined by is it something that Nomar wants to do,'' O'Neal said. ``We're trying to make a determination of what would be the most predictable outcome.''

If Garciaparra opts for surgery, O'Neal said the procedure should be done fairly soon so the muscle heals properly.

The Cubs, who entered Thursday's game against the Cardinals without either of their opening-day middle infielders, recalled Ronny Cedeno from Triple-A Iowa. Cedeno was batting .348 with three home runs and six RBIs in 13 games in the minors.

Garciaparra was carried off the field after grounding into a double play and collapsing just in front of the batter's box in the third inning. Garciaparra is hitting just .157 with four RBIs.

omg i can't believe i took homar over michael young ....

seriously, fantasy sports is starting to piss me off this year.

in basketball, i lost kirilenko, richard jefferson, and jermaine o'neal for the season, and also maggette for the finals. i still managed 2nd place, but damn, what's the point of playing when injuries can ruin your chances so randomly?

can't believe my injury badluck is carrying over to baseball now ....

Yeah, he'll be out until at least late summer, probably no earlier than August.
