I'm not totally bummed from the Cubs' perspective. Both Hairston and Perez have looked like they want to play when they get time. Hairston just did a hustling bunt single, diving into 1B, putting the ball just out of Rolen's reach. I hate to see Nomar go down like that, hustling himself, but I don't necessarily think that the Cubs will lose that much w/ him out.
Perez looked like he was doing some booming, Nomar tribute throws (there's a goofy team name for you...BoomingNomarTributeThrows'...I'm already all over 'RunawayBeerTrucks' though, after the description of CZam's triple...)
Nomar was hitting like Nomar anyway (.157?) but you have to think he would have come around based on a career's worth of data. Playing Neifi every day will expose him for the terrible hitter he is, and always has been. He's career OBP is scraping along at .301 and you have to go back to 2001, when he played 2/3rds of the season in Colorado, to find a year in which is OBP was over .300. He should help the pitcher's defensively, though.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'
I just remember how long it took Piazza to heal his torn groin, I believe it was almost a full season. Too bad for Nomar owners, although I'd go grab Hairston if he's still on the wire, hopefully he'll get burn everyday at 2b for a little while.
Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.

Yeah, that's very true. Just what he's done this year, he's done pretty well and with some energy that was sorely lacking the last couple of years. If you look tired in May, where will you be in September?
The other downside is that it thins out the depth the Cubs had displayed...

As long as the trade wasn't just accepted after the Nomar injury then let it go through.
Agreed. If the trade was agreed to before the injury, the trade stands.

Yeah but with a torn groin, how much fun could he have?
Agreed. Surprised no one else mentioned that. Lol.
