How much value does Santana (5x5 league) have assuming he does not get a permanent spot in the rotation? Somebody just offered me him for Lance Carter, and I already have 2 solid closers.

I would keep Carter. I just dropped Santana and picked up Appier.
Santana's last few appearances have been average at best. Giving
up a run and not getting the Ks.

I seem to remember 4 or 5 days ago when he shut down a very potent Red Sox offense for 5 innings defeating Pedro Martinez in his first start of the year. That is slightly above average. I wink
That said I would take Carter anyway as closer insurance. There are other even better middle relief men out there (Donnelly for instance).
If you think you may need a solid starter at some point keep Santana. It's only my personal impression that Santana will get his shot in the rotation sooner rather than later. If that's what you want to know than I think he will get his shot.

I hope so, he would be a great option. He does have nasty stuff.

*somebody* calm me down. i'm so close to dropping santana, and i've held out for so long, just hoping he'd get a shot to start, and in the meantime helping out with my WHIP and K and ERA...but JEEZIZ CHRYSLER he just ruined me today. ruined me. somebody say stop. make me stop. don't let me drop this guy. i know he's good. i know he's good. i know he's good.
dammit.

Reed's complete game was the reason I dropped him this morning,
I wish I had benched him today. He screwed up a great start by
Wood ! I say drop him and pick up Appier if he is available- Ape
will get you wins and not screw up your ERA or WHIP.

i'm confused. are you saying santana will mess up your era and whip? if you are, your wrong. he's probably the second best relief man behind dotel. I'd keep him if i were you.

seems like besides that one start, his appearances have been decked out with terrible WHIPS and ERAs...i'm still trembling on the edge, thinking about graves or ainsworth, maybe even shields...thanks for helping me.
