According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles might look to acquire Todd Helton from the Colorado Rockies. One potential trade offer for Helton could include Jay Gibbons, Nick Markakis, Hayden Penn and John Parrish. The Orioles might even throw in Sidney Ponson.
He's got a horrible contract... was getting Sosa not enough, they want to take on more unneccesary burden by getting Helton too? Sure he's a good hitter, but not THAT good to warrant all that $$$. At least IMO he's not.

Just proves the O's are trying to win with nothing but hitting. It could work but if they hypothetically made the playoffs, they'd be screwed with their pitching.
Yeah his fantasy value would take a huge hit. He'd go from a .350 BA/30 HR hitter to a .325 BA/20 HR hitter. And some people spent a first round pick on him

It would, but i still think that move is unlikely. The O's don't need any more offense, and he's the franchise player, and I think Col overrate him even over that.

yeah.. i agree with whats been said... and ihighly doubt theyd even make the playoffs... but just imagine the lineup filled with roberts mora sosa helton and tejada... yikes... i certainly wouldnt feel very confident against them,... even with schill on the mound or something... thats just scary.
They are willing to throw in Ponson? Throw Ponson in the trash, first of all, plus, dont the O's realize that Bruce Chen and Rodrigo Lopez are not going to cut it all year? I dont understand that franchise. The Nationals come into town and Angelos is afraid of the $$ he will be losing in the seats...so he gets Sosa, now he wants to get Helton....he knows that hitting sells tickets. I am not so sure that his priorities are in the right order....
"I live for this game. If baseballs went well with eggs, Id eat them for breakfast..."
Hitting sells tickets, but winning sells even more tickets than that. Nothing fills the stadium like a winner, really what are they doing over there? Yes teams have won and competed on hitting (Angeles just a couple years ago hit there way to a World Series title) but you need at least average pitching to be a winner with a great line-up. Orioles have nothing, this is probably just rumor talk, but if true would turn the AL East into a slug fest.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
