More Nook, Less Thames

There always seems to be one guy right in front of Marcus Thames and now it looks like that guy is Nook Logan. As good as Thames is, I hope the Tigers stick with Nook and get that kid all kinds of PT. His defense tonight (those 2 HR stealing leaps against the Orioles)was gold glove caliber, and he has Olympic sprinter speed. He is a great table-setter and a pain for opposing pitchers when he gets on the basepaths. A great bunter, too. Oh, and a good eye at the plate and excellent patience. I think I might be developing a man-crush.

Speed may not always show up in the boxscore the way that power does, but it always helps win games and it never goes into slumps. When Maggs comes back, it'll be Monroe versus Logan, round 2.

I loved what we saw in Logan tonight. His speed can make him essential to this slow-footed team. I would like to see him actually drive the ball somewhere. He seems to slap the ball around without authority. Those types of hitter usually are prone to severe slumps as they are over-matched by good pitching.
I hope Tram lets him play his way out of the line-up. He could be an illusion, but it's worth finding out.

Above all else, I like Logan's defense. We really need that out there and he could be a difference maker in that respect, particularly when we get back to Comerica. I do like Thames to play once or twice a week, but I think Logan is a better fit right now for most of the playing time. As mentioned, Logan probably won't be driving the ball much as that's just not his game. He also doesn't look like he's going to walk much, but as long as he keeps the K's down and doesn't hit the ball in the air too much, he will do ok. This guy almost beats out lazy ground balls to second!

The Tigers have played the last few games well. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

On another note, there isn't a whole lot of talk of that "other outfielder" stealing starts from Logan or Thames anymore. Let's hope it stays that way.
