Reassuring Quotes From Dan Kolb

Postby tomkatt » Mon Apr 18, 2005 5:55 pm

Taken from the Braves official site:

"I don't know where to start and I don't know how to fix it yet."

"It's one [stupid] thing after another for me lately and it's starting to get irritating."

"I don't know if I'm fighting myself mentally or what I'm doing now. There's a serious personality check that's got to happen in myself within the next 24 hours."

"This is the first time I've had to battle myself -- period. It's not free and easy. It's not physical. Physically, I feel great. It's just something that I've got to fix in my head, I guess."

Again I re-iterate, if you're a Kolb owner then grab Reitsma if you've got the roster space.

I heard Chipper Jones talking this morning with Jim Rome and he basically said that Reitsma will get the save opps. over the next week or so until Kolb proves he can throw strikes.

What's the bet Reitsma gets the save today after Huddy goes 8 innings.

I've owned Reitsma before and watched him closely last year on another owner's team...he isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, all that good. I'm wondering if there is anyone else in ATL pen that will step up? Bernero, Gryboski, Sosa?

Actually you're wrong, he's regarded as having some of the best stuff in the majors and also has very good control. Perfect for a closer. The problem is has he got the mentality to close? He sure didn't have it as a starter.

But his record as an MR is decent. Last year he came into a lot of games with the Braves in trouble and did very well in those situations. He allowed just 3 of 19 inherited runners to score.

He's started off very well this year. But who knows. A battling starter with very good stuff moved to the bullpen. Don't the Dodgers have a closer that fits that description ;-)

Time will tell if and when he gets a chance to close but I've got a feeling we're going to find out in the next few days and if you've got the space, there's no harm in putting him on your bench to find out.

We have a 40 transaction limit for the year. I dont own Kolb, but in a 14 team league, saves are hard to come by. You think I should pick up Reitsma off of FA?

Chris Reistma has excelent talent just as long as he is not starting. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Cox at least give him an oportunity, before they look for outside help.

ooh...i knee-jerked after that one, dropped bedard, and picked up reitsma. but i really need a closer, and i know reitsma's got the stuff. if he gets the chance, i see him holding on to it.

but i am sorry to have let go bedard. i do have fondness for the bedard. :-/

Reitsma has been far from great the past couple years, but unless Kolb can figure out what the hell he's doing he should get some save opps. Reitsma allows too many HR's, and doesn't get enough K's to be that good. The Braves have nobody else though, so I guess it's him for now.

I actually thought Kolb would be pretty good this year, but it's a good thing he's not on any of my teams.

Smoltz is probably tired of getting those longing eyes from most of his teammates by now...
