The only shortstop besides Tejada obviously you can make a case is better than Young is Derek Jeter....that said I have them about even but you can get Young 1-2 rounds later....
Young is about 3-5 for SS's. Tejada and Jeter are considerably better, and Rollins will be close to Young. Reyes is also up around Young, but he still qualifies at 2B.
He's good, but definately not #1, or even #2 IMO. But he sure is proving that the past couple seasons havn't been flukes. Can't imagine taking him over Jeter though.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
Young IS underappreciated, but he does not sniff Tejada.
As for Reyes, IF he stays healty and IF he does what people seem to project for him (near .300, 190-200 hits, 100 runs, 10 homers & 50+ stolen bases), then isn't he a clone of Crawford? And if you could have a Carl Crawford (the darling of many posters who took him in the first round) at such a scarce position as shortstop, then isn't Reyes worth a top 3 round pick?
Mind you, I am not advocating per se, I am simply playing devil's advocate.
im in the process of trading for a SS right now, and honestly, young doesn't sniff tejada. tejada is first round material if he played OF. let alone a scarce position.
I also think jeter is superior. He has moderately less power, but he steals and is as consistent as they get.
I have young number three. But I think furcal is close, and reyes could be close.
I am going ot pay more for young than those two, because young is in a better lineup than furcal and isn't so dependent on SB's like reyes is. But to me, they are roughly equal, although I prefer young.
I think he is underrated however. But to say he could be number one is absurd.
Where did this Rollins love come from? He got better last year, and he still wasn't as good as Young. Young will give you 20-25 HR, 100-110 RBI, 100 R, 12-15 steals, and a .310 average. Maybe Jeter is ahead of him. But its very close. Young continues to be underrated, after seeing some of the posts suggesting Rollins and Reyes are better. This is like last year when people kept saying he'd fall off, and he still finished as the best 2nd baseman, and the 2nd best SS (I believe he was behind Tejada. I'm not aware if anyone was ahead of him besides Tejada)
