George Steinbrenner speaks out.

George Steinbrenner wrote:"Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed, as I'm sure all Yankee fans are, by the lack of performance by our team," Steinbrenner said in a statement issued immediately after the game. "It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around."

I can understand their record after the 2nd Red Sox series, but the sweep by the O's makes me ponder if their bull pen is all that. We all know the Yankees will turn it around, but IMO they need a stronger bull pen.

This is pretty much standard fare from Georgie. Last year the Yanks were struggling fresh off a beating from the Sox and entering a series at home against the Oakland Big 3. Lot of people thought that'd be it for them but they took that series, might have even swept actually, and were fine after that.

Not really an excuse and Tampa's offense isn't exactly chopped liver.

its not nearly as good as baltimores or the red sox.

and tampas starting pitching is horrible....

i expect the yankees to sweep them just as the sox did. easy series.

Not surprised that he's a bit irked. I'd be a little upset too if I owned the Yankees right now. Then again, I'd have all that money to comfort me. :-D
