The Royals placed closer Jeremy Affeldt on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a strained left groin. Affeldt was pulled from Friday's game in the ninth inning because of the injury, and an MRI confirmed the problem on Saturday. He had a similar injury during spring training.

This is typical of Affeldt, who has nasty stuff, but always seems to have some kind of injury. Last year he missed 48 games with a torn right oblique muscle. Those owners looking to replace Affeldt in their lineups should consider Mike MacDougal, who will be filling in as the Royals' closer and picked up his first save in nearly a year on Friday night. MacDougal is wild, but there probably aren't a lot of available closers in most fantasy leagues.
