Ben Sheets just signed a new 4 yr deal worth $38 mil. It was a must that the Brew Crew lock up Benny for at least a little bit. While looking up where Sheets ranks in salaries for pitchers, I found these gems for 2005 salaries:
Mike Hampton $15 mil
Kevin Brown $15 mil
Chan Ho Park $15 mil
Anyway, good news for the Brewers and their fans, because it is a sign that the new management is heading in a different direction with this team.
Those contracts are fairly old. You don't see contracts like those very often anymore. The market has changed.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

How bout Eric Milton and Russ Ortiz this year? Even compared to them, the Brew crew got a steal here.
There are still bad contracts out there . Just pointing out that those 3 are not the best examples given the change in the market the last few years.

Nothing was meant by those contracts, just I thought they were kind of funny for the players listed. I do agree the Brewers are getting a good deal for a potential young stud and a great anchor for an improving staff.
The Brewers aren't gong to compete for a championship anytime soon, but they are definatly improving. They have a very strong farm system with youngin's expected in the next year or two (Feilder, Weeks, Capellen, etc...). Plus, they have a new owner who is willing to spend money. There is no doubt in my mind that if the Seligs were still running the team, that Sheets would have ended up elsewhere.
I love what the Brewers have done so far this year, we got Carlos Lee and only had to give up Podsednik and Vizciano, Vizciano was a bump IMO. Signing Sheets was even bigger, he could've made twice that on the open market, the Yankees or someone would've spent a lot of money on him. Plus, Dave Krynzel is ready to play, the only reason they sent him back to Triple-A is because they didn't want him so sit on the bench, if and when Brady Clark screws up, Krynzel will be called up immediatly. Capallen will eventually become a stud, Fielder and Weeks are just a year away from making the Brewers roster, so then we can move Overbay for pitching.
