Fantasy Rookie - How'd I do?

Postby Sophocles » Fri Apr 15, 2005 2:25 pm

I'm new to fantasy baseball (but I am a lifetime baseball fanatic). I would appreciate any feedback you can give me on the team I drafted (i.e., strengths, weaknesses, etc.). I am in a 12 team yahoo league with H2H scoring. Categories are very basic: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, SV, K, ERA, and WHIP. My roster is:

C: J. Mauer
1B: J. Thome
2B: B. Roberts
SS: C. Izturis
3B: E. Hinske
OF: Vlad
OF: Shef
OF: J. Bay
UT: J. Jones
BN: T. Iguchi
BN: V. Castilla
DL: J. Morneau

SP: M. Mulder
SP: T. Hudson
RP: M. Rivera
RP: D. Graves
P: J. Julio
P: K. Wood
P: M. Hampton
BN: H. Ramirez
BN: B. Lawrence
BN: B. Myers

I can tell that I need a stronger IF, some steals, and some Ks. But I'm not sure how to go about getting that. Any suggestions?

Your infield is not that bad. Roberts and Izturis should give you upwards of 40-50 steals betweent them, Hinske seems to be having a turnaround and Thome will hit. You've got Wood and if he can stay healthy, you should be alright in starting pitching with him and Hudson anchoring yoru staff. I'd probably dump Julio, unless your league counts holds. If you want a relief pitcher to help in ERA and WHIP, and some K's Juan Rincon would be much better, if he is available.

Thanks for the advice. Rincon is unavailable. Any other tips? I'm not sure if Igutchi is worth anything. Wouldn't I be better served by picking up someone else?

I would hold on to Iguchi for a while. You're obviously gonna use Roberts at 2b but I feel Iguchi will put up good numbers at a weak position. He'll hit for avg, score runs, and steal. Wait awhile and trade him if his value increases. If he ends up sucking drop him. Don't make any moves too soon because you have a good team and we're only like 5% done with the season.
