Well I thought Ollie would suffer a bit this year, but definately not this bad. His control is still erratic, which means more than BB's, it means better counts for hitters, better pitches to hit, etc. You don't usually see great pitchers walking that many people. Zam sort of gets away with it because he never allows HR's.

For his owners' sake, lets just hope it's his release point that's off, or something fixable like that.

Don't wory he's getting close to his quota. That just means less HR's later :-b

Think Ollie could have the Brandon Webb sophomore jinx? I remember Webb being drafted in the early-mid rounds last year with great expectations and pretty much blew it. He came back a bit in the second half but with a horrible whip (walks) and no wins. I see Ollie bouncing back, but that means a mid 3 ERA and about 190-200Ks. I dont see Ollie winning over 13 games and his whip should rise this year to around a 1.25 clip. Still a good pitcher but in a 12 team league, he will have to push it to be a quality #2. A good #3 option.

It seems odd but I am seriously mulling over dumping him when Escobar comes off the DL. Even the 'tons of K' may not materialize if he's only going 4 or 5 innings max. +even though the Cubs won tonight, no W for Ollie and at least Escobar will have some W. We onyl have one DL slot and I've got a bunch of bats that are sort of hot right now and no more obvious drops I can see. Maybe I can sneak him one more chance or something somehow.

His second year was 2003 and this is now his fourth year in the majors. He did regress in 2002 which is why I've never been big on him. I kept well away from all the hype this year so I'm enjoying this :-)

well, do remember that this is still oliver perez. i think in 2002 i coined the term "the oliver perez annual meteoric rise to 6.00 ERAdom" cuz when he was a mid-late season callup i usually gave him a shot, and he'd maybe have a promising start or two, then blow up.

obviously, last year he had a much better season than any other in his career, but still there were so many games where he got hit up for 4+ runs, but he'd still get his Ks.

obviously he had his share of good games, cuz i think his era was sub 3, he struck out 200+ and he got i think 12 wins. but still, this is the year that should tell you if the guy's foreal yet, or if he's just a kid with stuff who has yet to figure it out.

he reminds me of jon garland, in terms of their success. he and jon garland seem like they might be good someday down the road, but right now they're not consistent enough to turn the corner from a 4+ ERA .500ish ~12win pitcher into a dependable sub-3.5 15+ win guy...

but as of right now, it really shouldn't be such a shock that someone might give up on him... while hte guy could get burned by olly doing well, he also could be giving up a guy who implodes and ends up with a 4.00 ERA again. it really depends on who hepicked up, i spose
