Why is Giambi playing the field?

Postby dimaggio5 » Tue Apr 12, 2005 8:13 am

OK A lil venting time..... :-[ :-C I was never a fan of Giambi's fielding even before he was outed as a "Balco addict". But, why on earth is Torre even allowing him to play the field 2 days in a row? He helped set up the rally on Sat by allowing a ground ball double play ball go under his glove - should've fielded it cleanly. Then on Sunday he dropped a pop up by Mora which then led to Mora crushing a ball off of Pavano's head. Now had he made both plays, Johnson would have gotten out of the inning and Pavano wouldn't have a mild concussion right now. :-[

Even though he's an abuser of juice, he's a nice guy and the only one whom owned up to using juice so far. Quietly I hope he handles the scrutiny and potential abuse he'll receive this year well, however, why is Torre showing so much faith in his fielding when it was never that good in the first place. Wasn't this the reason we brought Tino back besides being insurance? So that Giambi will only DH? I luv Torre but sometimes he goes with his heart a lil too much. :-[

Because Torre wants to get Sierra in the lineup and Ruben can't play first base.

Ok Sierra in when a lefty RJ facing a righty lineup. Not many hits to the right side OK I can see that. A ground ball pitcher and Giambi plays first base instead of Tino again? Mmmmmm Maybe Torre just went with his heart again and tried to build Giambi's confidence back up. Giambi is stictly a DH now, and not a very good one at that, and should never ever be allowed to play the field again.

Or maybe he wants Sierra's bat in the lineup because Tino can't hit. :-?

So he gives up the defense for a lil more offense against Balt -we're not talking about the Sox here. Besides Sierra is not that much better than Tino. Tino is a all fields hitter and Sierra more of a straight away pull hitter. Chen was pitching and he's not exactly someone you CAN't hit. He mixes speed so you just have to wait a bit. Tino is a much more patient hitter than Sierra and smarter. I still think he's trying to build Gaimbi back up which is fine and I support that just pick the opponents likes Toronto or Tampa
