Seriously, I hope the MLB knows that catching guys like this isn't making them look tough.

What a joke

I guess it's good that no one's really getting nailed though. Maybe it shows that the sport's not as bad as it's portrayed.

They just interviewed some guy during the Yankees/Sox game about it (I forget who), but he said that by nailing these little known guys, it's just proof that these are guys who don't have the best trainers and aren't getting and using the best "clear" and the like. More than likely they are just guys buying over the counter stuff who aren't paying a lot of attention to what's on the labels (as was apparently the case with Alex Sanchez, and it isn't hard to believe him given his records).

Human growth hormone doesn't show up in the urine tests conducted by the MLB, so unless they start doing some blood testing and manage to nail some big name guy who is using hard to detect steroids, and using them effectively, the whole thing doesn't mean very much at all.

Nice to see they are busting guys, but let's get the star players on those test lists. ;-)

To buy the stories of these guys, I'd liek to see them come out and provide MLB with the product that they used to test. By just taking the suspension and not trying to defend themselves by providing the drug that they used, they make me even more sick. If I msitakenly took something over the counter and didn't read the label right, I'd at least provide the product to MLB to test to show I at least was taking an over the counter product and not something worse.

Or MLB could just announce exactly what it is their tests indicated. If part of the goal to deter this sort of activity is to shame and embarass users who are found out, wouldn't it work more effectively if they gave a more precise indication of what they tested positive for? Then we might have a better idea if Alex Sanchez's (or anybody else's) excuse holds water or not. Of course then he might be able to craft a better excuse, but since we don't really have enough info to say he is definitely lying now, how is that any different from the situation we are already in? Either you're going to give him the benefit of the doubt or not, but more info, either way, would be at least somewhat illuminating.
