Did you buy the warantee? My 15G broke and I had a 1 year warantee. Instead of replacing the 15G (which is now obselete) they have to give you however much you paid for it. At the time I bought it, it was $300, and now the 20G is $300. So by getting the warantee, I upgraded iPods after a few months. ;-D

forget ipods
buy flash memory mp3 players...you could throw those against the wall and they wont break...

as for your ipod, somethings probably wrong with the harddrive and unless you have the warranty be prepared to shell out some money for a new one

at least thats what i think the problems is...but then again i could be wrong

What is Flash Memory player and what makes it better than others?? I'm looking into buying a MP3 player and I am weighing the pros and cons of certain types with my limited knowledge.

Some I've been considering...
DELL Pocket DJ: $180-10hr battery-2,000 songs
- I've liked this deal at first but have heard some bad things about its quality
Rio Karma: $200-15hr battery-3,000 songs
- I am leaning toward this one but I've read that is isn't very durable
Zen Touch: $250-24hr battery-4,000 songs
- seems like the most complete package but the high price and poor interface dismay me

Any comments on these are any other MP3 players are greatly appreciated.

I think this is right:

Flash memory Mp3 players run on a chip instead of a hardrive like and Ipod all three you listed before. Personally, i prefer flash. Ive had mine for almost my second year and have yet to have any problems. But harddrives are different. they are much more prone to problems as they contain many moving parts. Therefore you have to be careful you dront drop it, it doesnt get shaken too much, or hit anything, espeicalyl wehn its playing. Ive also seen many harddrive based players go out in 3-6months. Flash memory has no moving parts but will cost about the same price as the hardrive player but will hold less songs. The lasrgest flash player I know of is 1 Gig.
personally, i bought a smaller, older version of this player and i love it

With the 12 i have i can hold about 100-120 songs, so with the 1Gig you should easily be able to fit 200 songs. this mp2 player was extremely light weight, easy to use, many functions, and a longer battery life. I think about 24hrs/ 1 AA. IF you dont plan on carrying around your entire music collection, i would recommend flash mp2 players.

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure if those are for me though. One of the features I wanted was the ability to store a lot of songs, and the flash memory players are generally more expensive. I guess I'll have to continue to weigh the pros and cons of the others.

Yeah if you want to store a lot, go with the HD ones. But you are not correct that flash memory drives are more expensive...in fact, they're quite a bit cheaper than HD players, but they just don't store as much. I have never seen a flash player larger than about 1 gb in size personally...but they're on their way. No way I'd ever buy a HD (iPod) simply because I would be afraid of dropping it or something. Flash drives rock, plus they're smaller and even more portable. But I store most of my music on a computer and then just transfer certain songs I like on to mine.
