PHOENIX (AP) -- Derek Lowe of the Los Angeles Dodgers was hit on the right elbow by Craig Counsell's line drive and left Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The ball careened off the right-hander and, without touching the ground, sailed over third baseman Jose Valentin's head for an RBI single in the fifth inning. Lowe ran to the first base line in obvious pain, then fell to the ground as a trainer ran on the field.

A disgusted Lowe kicked the wall in the dugout as he walked into the clubhouse. There was no immediate word on the extent of the injury.

Lowe, who signed a $24 million, three-year contract with the Dodgers, was scheduled to fly to Boston after the game to be part of the World Series ring ceremony Monday. Lowe won three games for the Red Sox in the 2004 postseason.

Aww comon Derek, Pavano took one to the head and walked off the field.

Man, that's gotta suck. He must have been in serious pain - it was his throwing elbow also. :-o

I play 1 H2h league, in a pitched battle for Ks and both Pavano and Lowe get "hit" out of a game early...both starting today for me. Unreal.
