JD Drew was not that bad of a signing, but the out clause sucks. He'll earn that 11 Mil. a year.
Taking him over Adrian Beltre for 2 Million less WAS a mistake. That was just plain stupid, IMO. OPS is the most telling stat, and out of your cleanup spot, you want a high SLG. Beltre was an absolute beast, that's no fluke. Should have passed on Kent, paid a few more million to get JD, and kept Beltre.
Oh, and the Bravos are the best team in the league. Just wait 'til Marcus gets back, and Andruw & LaRoche start heating up
Thomson, Horacio, Hampton have looked great. Thomson especially was really, really good.
Smoltz today... no words to describe how filthy. Old school Smoltz... throw strikes and use that splitter/slider. He still has a pretty good curveball that he hasn't used much. Mets shouldn't have even come out to bat.
Huddy didn't look good at all in his first start, and he still got the W, and kept the ER's down. Wait for him to improve as the season goes on, this team is sick.

We need another stick before we can really have a chance of making it deep into the playoffs
How do you figure? Most teams don't have a very good 8 hitter.
All we need is Mondesi to have an .800 OPS, which he's very capable of. The expectations aren't very high on Jordan. I think he can get a .700 OPS, which by the way would be better than Alex Gonzalez. I'm pretty confident that Jordan will hurt himself, and the club will be forced to play Langerhans, or put Marte out there in the OF (tearing up AAA in first 10 Ab's ). Marte/Langerhans could probably put up a .790 OPS. Mix that in with a great pitching staff, and a very good 1-6, and they're not in need of another stick. Though it would be very helpful in their chances

Jeff Kent wasn't a mistake. JD Drew wasn't a mistake. Derek Lowe wasn't a mistake.
They are a solid team. With the very young, inexperienced Padres, and the old-broken down Giants, LA has a great chance at making the postseason again this year...
I agreed right up until you said the Padres are young an inexperienced. They're not really that young... they're a rather old team, in fact. They have essentially the same roster as last year, when they had the 6th-oldest hitters and 4-oldest pitchers in the NL (average age 30.1 years for both of them).
Oh, and the best team in baseball? The Boston Red Sox. The Cubbies are right up there, too.
