ZITO noooo!!!!!!

Postby Juhlz » Sun Apr 10, 2005 12:27 am

What to do with this guy. I thought he was due to turn things around this season, but apparently not. Is he going to be a killer - your predictions?

Will he cut people's heads off? Dunno, but with the way he's attempting to pitch, I wouldn't be surprised. :-b

A killer of fantasy teams? Very possible. I had him on my "do not draft" list for this year. Just declining too much for me.

Killer as in good? I doubt it.

Zito is nothing. He's got nothing left. It's kind of sad, actually, cause I like the guy as a person.

No, no, no!

He can't!

I still have faith, Barry. Prove them wrong!

...

(But just in case, sit on the bench this next week.)

I thought Zito was God.
Roger Angell: I was talking with Bob Gibson and I said: 'Are you always this competitive?' He said: 'Oh, I think so. I got a three-year old daughter, and I've played about 500 games of tic-tac-toe with her and she hasn't beat me yet.'

OK, I'm serious here. Why is he not waiver wire material? Is it just because of the "upside" he showed 2 years ago? That's my only logical guess I suppose...but in a time when there are so many other young starters who could break out in a big way, I don't see what's so unreasonable about dropping Zito. I don't own him, but if I did, I would be dropping him for someone like Bedard or D. Bautista or someone else with more upside than Zito.

He hasn't shown anything in well over a year, I'd say it's about time to cut him loose.

I think everyone needs to take a chill pill. It's the first week of the season! RJ didn't have a great game yesterday, Santana and Oswalt got rocked in their first starts, etc. Don't get me wrong: I've been down on Zito for a while now, and thought he was hugely overvalued in this years draft. I haven't expected much from him and don't expect much from him. But if you drafted him, you obviously saw something in him, and I don't think you should give up after a bad start.

The thing is, his whole pitching game is based on his curveball. When people don't swing at his curve, then he gets hammered cause his other stuff is just average. And now that I think about it, I don't remember much else besides fastball and curve from last night... :-?

I agree....although he will have some decent starts this year...I think the added pressure of being the only "ace" in OAK this year...and not having the other parts of the monster will take a further toll on him...I wold try and trade him first...but if there are no takers...I would drop him for another SP...(atleast when he is done pitching agaisnt KC).... :-)
