Drop Padilla?

Postby homerunhitter420 » Mon May 12, 2003 4:27 am

I'm in a deep H2H, league with a void at starting pitching. I'm thinking about dropping Padilla for Lohse for a quick win. Assuming Lohse can beat KC. Am I trying to do to much?

If you drop him, someone will probably pick him up. If you think Lohse has better staying power this year, go for it, but it may not be a great long-term idea. With Millwood, Wolf and Myers pitching the way they are and the chemistry Kerrigan fosters in that staff, Padilla (barring injury) will come around. According to the Philly press, he just doesn't have his stuff. There aren't any injury rumors. I'd probably wait another week, too.

It's still a little early to give up on Padilla. I agree that if you drop him, someone will grab him.

Don't give up on Padilla just yet. He's had a couple of rocky starts, that much is true. He's still one of the best pitchers in majors. He'll rebound.

He should still be solid and every pitcher goes through a rough stretch. I would not base your evaluation on him on how he does in his next start, since that is in Houston, so he will likely get rocked again, but wait until after that week. Just stick him on the bench until he strings a decent start or two together.

I wouldn't dump Padilla. On other hand, I would leave him on the bench for now. I would also ask why Lohse is sitting on the WW? Surely, there has to be somebody else who you can dump for Lohse. The Twins have won 10 of 12 now, while Lohse has an ERA in the 3's. Lohse should not be sitting on the WW. I'm sorry, but he should be filling out of the middle or back of somebody's rotation.
