From what I've seen of Lyon, he looks pretty good. His fastball has been consitantly mid-90's with good movement and location. Even when the Dodgers hit him hard, he wasn't pitching too bad...there were a couple lucky hits and that HR to Valentin, but his stuff looked good. If he continues to pitch the way he has so far I think he could hold onto the job.
Seems like after a rough start, he looks to be good now. I don't watch D'Back games, but is his stuff doing good now? Seeing back to back saves makes me feel confident about this guy.
Don't forget he converted 9 straight saves with Boston in '03. Didn't blow one until they told him he would no longer be the closer. I picked him up in several leagues and I'm comfortable with him on my teams.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
9 saves is good, but for long-term... he won't be very good. In 2003 when he got those saves he had a 1.56 WHIP. I don't believe that being a closer turns great RP's into worse ones, and I certainly don't believe becoming a closer makes bad RP's into good ones. We'll see though... maybea year on the shelf did him some good.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
I actually think Lyon will become a solid closer this year. He had a 2.5 to one strikeout to walk ratio when he pitched for the Red Sox and had 12 Ks in 13 IP this spring with no walks. So far this season he has struck out 5 and walked just one in 5.1 IP so I dont see any reason that this will not continue.
He may eventually lose his closer's job, but for now he is getting the job done, and that is all that matters... Every year we search for those "Sleeper" closer canidates..He is a prime example, and until he falters... He should be a good "Sleeper" source for saves...In Roto..Lyon is much more valuable, than in head to head...
So it really depends on your Fantasy Baseball Set-Up...(imho)
