In football, contracts arent guaranteed. In baseball they are. I think some players will maybe try to play through an injury a little more or play a little more selfishly (for personal stats rather than team) in their contract year. However, it has been blown a little bit out of proportion.

regardless, its there.
you say football it isnt there, i say baskeball (where there ARE guaranteed contracts), players do indeed get lazy after their big contracts. the vast majority, not just a few.

thats why beltres been killing it

i dont know what his stats are but hes looken good, i have him on 2 of my teams. i also watched a couple games of seattles this year cas thats all i get in vancouver and he just doesnt try and hit a HR every AB like Dunn ,thats why i think ehs gona hit .320 this year and have 125 rbis.
