This is just the medias way of blowing stories out of proportion -- until rivera blows 50% of his saves over at least half the season he deserves the benefit of the doubt
(I refused to take part in that poll, so thanks for the 10% update )
Hey, if your closer can't get guys out on his team's biggest rival there is a problem. The Yanks are Pedro's daddy and the Red Sox are Mo's daddy. And thats going to be tough when they are playing in the ALCS again.
It's ESPN that smokes the crack, the 10% people that voted for that are either terrible baseball fans or just people that hate the Yankees, which is about half the US.

The Sox managed to beat the Yanks despite them being "Pedro's Daddy" and the Yanks can beat the Sox regardless of them being "Mo's daddy". Completely overblown. Sure, it's an issue, but to even have a question like this is a testament to how stupid ESPN thinks baseball fans are (and I guess some of them truly are).
He's the best theres been over 11 years!! Starting the season against the sox doesn't help the psyche since he blew the last 2 versus them..let him get his confidance back...Jesus ESPN is on crack...
The sox on the other hand aren't chopped liver they are the World Champs and they have seen him more then any other team...that tends to give a nice advantage to the sox.
Also, its only 2 games!! He woulda won if not for AROD!!!
Arod blew the second game....
Its only the 2nd game of the season..Hey I think the yanks still took 2 out of 3 against the sox and Foulke blew it as well..maybee the sox should trade him.
This is rediculous anyone questioning rivera is an idiot...youll be feeling dumb when he saves 45 games...oh and if he is washed up have fun facing RJ in the playoffs when he comes in in the 9th to close
I don't think the unabalanced schedule helps here.
I mean, I will be pilloried for saying this, but some of these awesome closers are closers for a reason.
They are great at what they do, but they don't have the variety that the starters do, they just have a dominant pitch or two. But, part of their effectiveness is that they don't have to go through the lineup usually. their effectiveness derives from their nasty pitch and seeing them infrequently. It is hard to get a bead or a book on the good ones like rivera.
But the sox have seen him an awful lot lately.
I think he will be allright. If he isn't a "proven' closer, they may was well not apply the term to anyone. I think he is deteroriating slowly, he has been seen a lot. But some of this has to be just bad luck too.
